“My work has been described as Passionate, Strong and A Moment in Time. My personal goal is that my passion for life and creation comes through on my canvas. I try to capture the personalities of my animals, which I believe can only be seen by looking closely into their eyes. Both my landscapes and animals portraits are an expression of my passion for the environment and all living things.”
Rosalie J. (DeVoss) Starr was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and during her childhood lived in Austria and France. After her fathers retirement from his career in the military, the family moved to State College, Pennsylvania. There she met her husband William E. Starr, attended nursing school and raised two beautiful daughters.
Rosalie was able to pursue her interest in art in 2011 after retiring from her long career in nursing. She started her painting career in State College under the instruction of Alexander McBride and Nella Storm, as a member of the Art Alliance of Central PA. She began working with acrylics, painting abstract art.
in 2012 Rosalie moved to Shrewsbury, PA and studied at the York Art Association, taking classes from Jason Tako, Phyllis Disher Fredricks, and Barbara Buchanan. Currently, she works in a realistic style with oils, and enjoys doing many commissioned pieces.
Rosalie is a member of the York Art Association, York Art Association Gallery Group, The Hanover Area Arts Guild, Inc., and The Pennsylvania Arts Experience. Her work has been exhibited in shows at the York Art Association, and the Hanover Area Arts Guild, where she received several awards.
Rosalie’s solo shows include the York Blue Moon Restautant, York, PA, The Sally Little Danyo Member Gallery of YAA, Outdoor Country Club, York, PA, Arthur Hufnegel Public Library, Glenrock, PA and United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz, PA.
